Guest Blog - Cian Murphy from Quippe Medical

Take it away, Cian

G'day from Melbourne, Australia.

I'm Cian, Dr Sinead Murphy's nephew and I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was 5. I had to spent a few days in the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne but that wasn't too bad as the hospital is so cool, it's got meerkats and a fish tank with a shark!

Last year, when I was 7 I got an insulin pump that constantly gives me insulin. I like that I don't have to have injections at the start and end of the day. The only problem was that I couldn't find a way that the pump was comfortable and easy to use.

My mum and I designed a belt with a pocket to store the pump in and it has a window so you can see my pump and press it's buttons without taking it out the pocket. I can do massive jumps on a trampoline and my pump feels really safe. It's really easy to get on and off too!

Because I have to wear my pump all the time, I have to take it to bed with me. It's not very comfy to sleep with, so when we got it my mum put a little pocket in one of my soft toys so I could cuddle my pump at night.

My mum decided that we should make the pump belts and soft toys with pockets for other people too and we started a company called Quippe.

Mum thought of other things that would be useful for diabetics and got them made as well. I am really happy that Mumhas made all these cool things for me. I hope other diabetics like them too.
