Why Weight Loss Matters
Health Risks of Obesity- Your body weight may be contributing to your risk of developing the following health conditions:

- Joint problems and osteoarthritis
- Certain cancers
- Mental health impacts: depression, anxiety, low self-esteem
Benefits of Weight Loss:
- Improved blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels
- Lower risk of chronic diseases
- Better mobility and joint health
- Improved mood and energy levels
- Better sleep and reduced snoring
- Enhanced quality of life and self-confidence
- Increased life expectancy
The Problem with Fad Diets
We all read about the numerous diets and tricks that often promise rapid results. They may work for some people, at least in the short term but are typically:
- Unsustainable, and can make us feel pretty miserable when trying to adhere to them
- Often nutritionally imbalanced
- They may not be evidence-based
- They may lead to weight cycling or ‘yo-yo dieting’
A study published in British Medical Journal in 2018 examined 14 popular diets (e.g., Atkins, Zone, South Beach) and it found that while participants lost some weight in the short term (up to 6 months), most regained it within 12 months, especially when the diets were not combined with behavioural support or professional guidance. This is where we come in!
The evidence shows that sustainable weight loss requires behaviour change, and that medication can enhance success when used appropriately.

What We Offer
- Initial assessment and screening
- This first visit is a comprehensive assessment by our GP and nurse to determine what factors may be contributing in your case and to find a treatment plan that suits you.
- We will do a full history, physical examination including BP, BMI and waist circumference. We will perform blood tests to out-rule underlying conditions and to allow us to complete a holistic assessment of your health.
- We will offer an ECG to assess your heart.
- Tailored diet and lifestyle advice
- Pharmacological options when appropriate (e.g. orlistat, mysimba, semaglutide, liraglutide, tirzepatide)
- While we can prescribe medication as a treatment option, we may not always feel that this is the correct treatment for you so booking in to our clinic does not guarantee a prescription. We take a holistic view of your health and the GP will make a decision based on history and examination and best practice guidelines. There are strict guidelines on who is eligible for medications. These medications would not be appropriate for anyone with a BMI <27, or BMI < 30 if you do not have any weight-related health issues. They are not advised if you have a history of pancreatitis or a family history of medullary thyroid cancer.
- Referral to additional services if required (e.g. dietitian, physiotherapist)
- Regular review appointments:
- We will see you monthly initially to assess progress, offer advice and make sure you are on the correct treatment plan.
- We will then move to 3 monthly appointments once you are established on a treatment plan. At these 3 monthly appointments, we will do an examination, blood tests and an ECG. We will also titrate medications where required and monitor for side effects or problems.
